Evangelism - Pt 2

 • Jimmy Boyd • Series: Evangelism

Welcome! DC Church is committed to developing true KNOWING, GROWING, & GOING followers of Jesus. This Week’s Message: EVANGELISM, Part 2 Evangelism—the spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness. Every Christian is responsible for evangelism; for sharing the Gospel, the Good News. —If you wanted to know what Jesus’ Mission Statement was, it was found in Luke 19:10 NIV “10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” What’s Jesus call to every one of us? Mark 16:15 NIV “15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” People who are lost… —1—Their hearts aren’t hardened to the Gospel —2—They don’t know they are lost —3—They need a friend 4 Ways We Get Evangelism Wrong 1. We Make Evangelism Someone Else’s Responsibility 2. We Try to Bring People to the Gospel —Our command is not just to bring people to the gospel, but to bring the gospel to people. Look at this wonderful passage from Romans. “For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” (Romans 10:13-15). 3. We Focus on Getting People Saved When you think about what evangelism is, it is proclaiming the gospel. God never asked us to save anyone. He asked us to preach the gospel. “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow” (1 Corinthians 3:6-7) 4. We Make People a Project How To Reach the Lost! 1. Depend on the Holy Spirit “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly” (Acts 4:31). “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say” (Luke 12:11-12). 2.
