What Are You Wearing? Pt. 4 Colossians 3:12 NIV “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 5 Parts of our Spiritual Outfit 1. Compassion Definition—a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for the suffering or misfortune of others, and a desire to help them. Matthew Chapter 9—examples of Jesus’ compassion 2. Kindness Definition—The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. 3. Humility Definition—freedom from pride or arrogance. Proverbs 22:4 NLT “True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.” Proverbs 29:23 NLT “Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.” Philippians 2:8 NLT “He humbled [lowered, condescended] himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” 4. Gentleness Definition—the quality of being kind, tender, or mild-mannered. Philippians 4:5 NIV “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Proverbs 15:1 NLT “A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.” 5. Patience Definition—the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. Proverbs 14:29 NIV “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” (foolish) Romans 12:12 NIV “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Ephesians 4:2 NIV “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
